Motorfair - The Official Scottish Motor Show

Over one weekend in May, Knockhill Racing Circuit, five miles north of Dunfermline, is home to Motorfair - The Official Scottish Motorshow. Now in its fifth year, this year's show took place on Saturday and Sunday 10 and 11 May 2008.

A must see event for every motoring enthusiast, Motorfair brings together cars, cars and more cars for two days of jaw-dropping stunts on the track and in the air, endless opportunities for drooling over the world's fastest supercars, plus a host of sideshows and interactive events.

Exhibits at the 2008 show were divided into 7 Zones, providing a range of activities and attractions to suit all ages and interests.

Motorzone featured the A-Z of cars from Alfa to Zonda and included national previews of the new Peugeot 206cc Elle, the 308 sw and Bipper and Partner vans, plus the first sighting of the Saab Turbo X. Also on display were the highly acclaimed new Jaguar XF and, straight from its unveiling at the Monoco Supercar Show, the V8 Biera. The showpiece of the Renault stand was, inevitably, one of their current F1 cars.

A steady stream of customers was more than happy to queue for the free off-road rides on offer at the 4x4 Zone. Hosted by professionals from Jeep, Land Rover, Peugeot and Hummer, they were able to experience the unbelievable terrain, angles and impossibly steep climbs of Knockhill's off-road route first hand and to see the vehicles really put through their paces.

In addition, a vast array of new vehicles was made available to enable visitors to enjoy a free ride around the circuit. With no limit to the number of rides available and with fans simply registering for their favourite vehicle and waiting their turn to be driven by Knockhill's instructors, this was certainly a highlight of the day as far as we were concerned. Our spin in the Mercedes SLK 55 was awesome!

A host of crowd-pleasing favourites were in attendance to ensure that there was always something to see and do. The stunts on the track and in the air included both the wondrous and the wacky. Go fast Jet Pack Man came all the way from Texas to prove that man can fly, performing James Bond-style stunts which left the crowd gasping. Terry Grant, one of the best known and innovative car stuntmen in the world, brought along both his US Legend racing car and his mighty TVR sports car and thrilled the crowds with his death defying antics.

Perhaps the most amazing display at this year's event was by 25 year old Ben Shaw, a solider blinded by a roadside bomb in Iraq. Ben took to the track in a Ferrari 360 Modena at speeds of up to 60mph to become the first blind driver to complete a lap at Knockhill Racing Circuit: and all that just the day before he tied the knot with fianceé Louise Barbour.

Delivering a quieter, but equally impressive display were the Golden Lions Parachute Display Team who dropped into the show on the Saturday to lend their support. In addition, ace pilot Jim McTaggart's bi-plane air display was a highlight on both days, an awesome spectacle including loops and other airborne antics.

The British Army and the Royal Air Force were also in attendance providing an insight into modern armoury and weapons and demonstrating today's battle technology.

With so much to see and do, the Official Scottish Motorshow 2008 proved a great day out for all who attended. Roll on 2009.
