Scotland may only be a relatively small country, but it has a coastline some 10,000 miles long, In addition it has some 562 "major" inland lochs and innumerable smaller lochs and lochans. With a road system that in many places only dates back a couple of centuries, Scotland is a nation which long saw its waterways and seas as its primary means of transport.

With the arrival of Loch Lomond Seaplanes and their two aircraft, a Cessna Turbo Stationair and a Cessna 208 Caravan, this story has turned full circle, and it is now once again possible to view Scotland's stretches of water as providing access to remote and beautiful parts of the country, rather than obstructing that access.

Loch Lomond Seaplanes offer two main services. Their excursion base on Loch Lomond, is within an hour's flying time of most of Scotland. A wide range of options are on offer, including 30 minute trips giving, literally, an overview of Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, longer flights taking in hidden gems of Scotland's west coast, to a full day tour taking in a much of the best that Scotland has to offer.

Other trips can be tailored to meet particular interests. Golfers can plan their ultimate combinations of courses secure in the knowledge that distance is no object: how about Royal Dornoch in the morning and the Old Course at St Andrews in the afternoon? Or a distillery tour taking in Oban, Islay and Skye in a day? Or... well, when almost anywhere is quickly and easily accessible, the options are limited only by your imagination.

And since Summer 2007, Loch Lomond Seaplanes have been operating a scheduled seaplane service between the River Clyde at the Glasgow Science Centre and Oban Bay. This provides one flight each way four day per week, with two flights each way on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The ability to get from anywhere in Scotland to anywhere else in comfort and at speed is also of value for those doing business, for the media, or for a wide range of other charter possibilities. Full details of Loch Lomond Seaplanes' services are available on their website.
